Everything parents and carers need to know about Girlguiding

We help all girls know they can do anything

At Alderbury Girlguiding we are focused on developing our girls core skills through fun, friendships and enjoyable activities to stretch them and take them out beyond their comfort zone. Our exciting, adventurous activities and badges make up our programme of what girls do in guiding. Your daughters will enjoy earning their badges whilst learning new things with new friends and inspiring leaders.

Register a child

Whether your child wants to join Rainbows (4-7), Brownies (7-10), or Guides (10-14) at Girlguiding Alderbury, their journey starts here.

There are so many reasons to join Girlguiding! We offer a safe, girl-only space in which your child can build confidence, learn new skills and discover who they want to be. We’ve got an action-packed programme with something for every girl, and we work to be truly girl-led in everything we do.

Fill out the form to register your child’s interest in joining. We will then get in touch with you and can arrange a trial meeting for your child to attend.

Take the first step of your child's journey by registering their interest in joining.

Why should your daughter join us?

    We're just for girls

In our relaxed and encouraging all-girl spaces, every girl can be herself and feel at home. No pressure, no judgement – just fun and learning with other girls, guided by our inspiring volunteers.

    We help girls grow

We fire girls’ imaginations through challenges and adventures for all personalities and abilities, from 4 to 18 years old. She’ll try new things with friends she trusts and
volunteers she looks up to. And this will give her courage, connections, confidence, and memories she’ll never forget.

    We're flexible

No two guiding experiences are the same. She can choose her own way through our programmes, badges and awards. To her regular meetings, she might add weekend adventures or trips to other places. She can join at any age between 4 and 18 – and if she needs to leave for whatever reason, we’ll always welcome her back.

    We're a close knit community

Her best friends will be in her local unit, but with Girlguiding groups all over the country, she’ll have ready-made friends in just about every town. And she’ll instantly be part of our global family – connected to guiding communities in 150 countries around the world.

    We’re not standing still

We’ve been by girls’ sides for over 100 years. Today, we’re squarely focused on what drives, challenges and excites girls here and now. We listen to what girls tell us, and this guides what we offer and what we fight for.

    FAQs

Rainbows, Brownies and Guides all pay a small membership fee or ‘subs’ to cover the running costs. These are usually paid monthly or termly. We can let you know the current fees if you get in touch with us or register your child.

Each of our age groups has its own uniform. These can be purchased from the Salisbury Guide Shop (details at the bottom of this page) or online at www.girlguidingshop.co.uk. But uniform should never be a barrier to girls joining guiding so please get in touch with us if you have problems with this as we can help.

The programme is designed for girls to:

    • Learn about themselves.
    • Find their voice, discover how to use it and feel empowered to do so.
    • Gain skills and confidence so that they know they can do anything.

We have an excellent reputation for keeping girls safe that comes from carefully checking our volunteers and following best practice procedures.

    • We check our volunteers.
    • We follow a code of conduct.
    • We carefully train our volunteers.
    • We keep girls safe in, and outside of, the meeting place.
    • We keep girls safe online.

You can find out more on the main Girlguiding website here.

Around 60% of what girls do in regular unit meetings is related to our programme. Our programme is made up of 3 core things:

    • Unit meeting activities (UMAs). These are about taking part, trying new things and having fun as a group.
    • Skills builders. These are designed to help girls build core skills in areas like first aid, leadership and camping.
    • Interest badges. These give girls opportunities to explore their own interests outside of their unit meeting.

We don’t ask parents and guardians to volunteer at our unit. But if you can lend a hand from time to time it would help us enormously. Especially if you have skills you could pass on to the girls. Please get in touch with us if you are interested in volunteering.
